Harpagophytum Procumbens (Devil's Claw) - Indigenous to the Kalahari Desert in Africa this herb is also known as "Sengaparile" or "Duiwelsklou"; because of the claw-like shape of its fruit. While Devil's Claw has also been traditionally used to treat other health problems like diabetes, hypertension and gout, because of its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, it is used world-wide for  osteo-arthritis, fibrositis, rheumatism, small joint disease, and lower backache pain. Scientific studies have indicated that it is effective in stimulating the lymphatic system to increase resistance against disease.

Hawer (avina sativa), also called Green Oats, used as a restorative and nutritive tonic and as a diuretic. A remedy traditionally used in folk medicine as well as in modern herbalism to treat nervous exhaustion and as a general nerve tonic. Active ingredients are saponins, flavonoids, minerals, alkaloids, steroidal compounds, Vitamins B1 , B2, D, E, carotene and wheat protein.

Hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha) is one of the most highly respected natural remedies for high blood pressure and has well-known cardio-protective properties. Hawthorn works by dilating blood vessels, thereby increasing the heart's energy supply and improving its pumping ability and does this by blocking the action of a blood constricting enzyme called ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme). Hawthorn therefore reduces blood pressure in cases where there are chronically constricted arteries. The anti-oxidant properties of hawthorn also help to protect against damage caused by plaque build up in the coronary arteries.

Horny Goat Weed (Epimedium grandiflorum), also known as Yin Yang Huo, is a powerful remedy in Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been used for thousands of years to promote male potency and as an aphrodisiac. Recent research has confirmed that Yin Yang Huo can increase sperm production and stimulate sexual desire.

Huang gi (Astralagus membranaceus)  is potent Traditional Chinese herbal remedy used since ancient times. This herb has a variety of benefits as a convalescent and rejuvenating tonic and is also useful in the treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Astragalus have been shown to intensify phagocytosis of reticulo-endothelial systems, stimulate pituitary-adrenal cortical activity and restore depleted red blood cell formation in bone marrow. Astragalus is also one of the herbs known to stimulate the bodies natural production of interferon. Astragalus is an ideal remedy for any one who might be immuno-compromized in any way. This can range from someone who easily catches colds to someone with cancer.

Humulus Lupulus is a sedative and restoring tonic for the central nervous system containing volatile oils, valerianic acid, estrogenic substances, tannins, bitter principle and flavinoids.

Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort) has been used for centuries to treat depression, anxiety and sleep disorders and is traditionally used as a restoring tonic for the nervous system and to lift the spirits. Active ingredients include glycosides, flavonoids, volatile oils, tannins and resins. The active ingredients in Hypericum are thought to boost serotonin levels, which are usually lacking in depressed people. In some countries like Germany, the sale of St John's Wort has outstripped many of the major prescription anti-depressants. St. John's wort is also a muscle relaxer, and has been used to treat menstrual cramps. It is a good expectorant as well and a popular remedy for gastrointestinal disorders such as gastic ulcers. Recent research at New York University and Weizman Institute of Science in Israel found that its two main constituents, hypericin and pseudohypericin, were found to inhibit the growth of retroviruses in animals, including HIV-AIDS virus although more study is needed. St. John's wort also promotes healing of skin wounds is used to help the body fight viral and bacterial infections.

Hypoxis Rooperi (extract of African Potato). Traditionally used to strengthen the immune system, treat testicular tumors, prostate hypertrophy and urinary infections. The activity of Hypoxis Rooperi against BPH is ascribed to phytosterol glycosides, mainly B-sytosterol. Hypoxis contains phytosterols and Sterolins, which help to modulate the effect of the immune system and enhance its performance. Also used as a convalescent and as a strengthening tonic in the treatment of 'wasting diseases' like TB, AIDS and cancer.
